TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – Brushing teeth before going to bed has become a daily habit for some people. But for some others, they don't do this at night. So what does a professor at Medical Faculty of UIN Malang said about it?

Drg. Anik Listiyana, M.Biomed, a dentist as well a professor at Medical Faculty of UIN Malang shares her knowledge about this issue. To her, it is very important to everyone to brush their teeth before they go to bed.

"Brushing your teeth before you go to bed is a must thing to do though sometimes we feel like we don't want to do it that day. And it must be introduced earlier since kids," Anik said on Monday (1/3/2021).

According to her, science has told that brushing teeth has become the easiest way to keep dental health. In sleep saliva production decrease at the night allowing plaque to generate bacteria attacking your tooth enamel.

Saliva known to be natural defense as it has anti-bacterial properties, neutralizes the acid level in your mouth that washes away the food left in your mouth.

Brushing your teeth before bed will prevent the growing number of those acid level while you sleep. And the flouride in toothpaste will protect your teeth during your sleep.

Skipping this activity at night will make your teeth turns their color to yellow for the plaques staying overnight at your teeth. "It will make your teeth less stronger, and could build cavities," she added.

If you kept ignoring it then it will lead to a severe condition such as swollen gum or bleeding the next time you brush it. Plaques will also be formed if you don't do this habit.

This lovely dentist suggest you to brush your teeth at least twice in a day for 2 to 3 minutes. Make sure you do it properly not to harsh or to soft so you will obtain the real advantage of brushing your teeth.

Make sure your toothbrush could reach all the area in your teeth. Don't forget to gargle up with some water. Doing this every night before you sleep will help you maintain your dental health.

"There is no word such as late. Just start it from now. Brush your teeth before you go to bed. If you have some issue, call your dentist right away. Do a regular check in every 6 months," this professor of Medical Faculty of UIN Malang said. (*)
