TIMES JAZIRAH, KEDIRI – Nestled amidst the verdant hills of Kediri lies a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural heritage waiting to be discovered by travelers. Among the myriad attractions, the Tomb of Tan Malaka stands as a poignant reminder of Indonesia's struggle for independence.

Located on the slopes of Selopanggung Mountain, Tan Malaka's resting place offers a serene sanctuary amidst the lush expanse of rice paddies and the nearby Watu Jagul tourist site. Accessed via winding and steep roads, the tomb is nestled within a local public cemetery, marked by clear signage for guidance.

Tan Malaka, a national hero instrumental in the republic's formation, found refuge in the mountains during the tumultuous transition to independence. His final resting place in Kediri bears witness to his unwavering commitment to the cause, despite facing execution in 1949, long before the political upheavals of 1965.

In a symbolic gesture of remembrance, a portion of Tan Malaka's grave soil was transported to Sumatra Barat by his family in 2017, underscoring his enduring legacy and significance in Indonesia's history.

Beyond the historical resonance of Tan Malaka's tomb, travelers can continue their journey towards Besuki, where the breathtaking Dolo Waterfall awaits. The route to this natural marvel winds through picturesque pine forests, offering a culinary detour at charming roadside eateries like Warung Pinus Kediri.

Established in 2018, Warung Pinus is a culinary haven that seamlessly blends traditional flavors with contemporary cafe vibes. With iconic wooden horse statues welcoming visitors, the eatery exudes rustic charm and serves up a diverse menu featuring local delicacies like tiwul fried rice and corn fried rice.

According to Dony, one of the staff members, these signature dishes are a hit among patrons, reflecting the fusion of local ingredients and flavorful spices.

Situated in the idyllic setting of Jugo Village, Badut, Warung Pinus offers a cozy ambiance amidst acres of pine trees, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike, especially during weekends and festive seasons.

From Warung Pinus, travelers can embark on a short journey to Dolo Waterfall in Besuki. Located at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, this natural wonder captivates with its pristine beauty and refreshing mountain air.

Accessible via GPS coordinates, Dolo Waterfall presents adventurers with a challenging yet rewarding ascent, featuring a thousand steps that wind through the lush wilderness of Gunung Wilis.

As travelers traverse the verdant landscapes and embark on exhilarating adventures, Kediri reveals itself as a hidden gem, where history especially about Tan Malaka, culture, and natural splendor converge to create an unforgettable experience. Whether paying homage to national heroes or immersing oneself in the beauty of its landscapes, Kediri promises an enriching journey for all who seek it. (*)
