TIMES JAZIRAH, MALANG – In the picturesque village of Suwaru, nestled in the heart of Malang Regency, a remarkable example of religious harmony shines brightly. The recent inauguration of the Indonesian Pentecostal Church (GPdI) Ebenhaezer Suwaru stands as a testament to the peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians in this community.

The inauguration of the new GPdI Ebenhaezer Suwaru building, officiated by Deputy Regent of Malang, Didik Gatot Subroto, marked not only the growth of the Christian community but also highlighted the spirit of unity and tolerance that prevails in Suwaru Village.

Suwaru Village is unique in its religious demography. While predominantly inhabited by Muslim residents, it is also home to a Christian minority. Despite the differences in religious beliefs, the residents of Suwaru have long embraced the values of mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation.

In his address during the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Regent Didik emphasized the importance of upholding tolerance and harmony among all layers of society in Malang Regency. His words echoed the sentiment of many in Suwaru Village, where religious diversity is not seen as a source of division but rather as a source of strength and richness.

The construction of the GPdI Ebenhaezer Suwaru, funded through joint efforts and assistance from the East Java Province, symbolizes the collaborative spirit that exists among the Muslim and Christian communities in Suwaru. The generous donation of land by a local family further underscores the deep-rooted bonds of friendship and solidarity that transcend religious boundaries.

Rev. Jochebed Yulia Susanti, the pastor of the congregation, expressed her gratitude for the support and cooperation of the local community in realizing the new church building. She emphasized the importance of creating a space where Christians can worship freely while also contributing positively to the wider community.

Deputy Regent Didik highlighted the significance of Suwaru Village as a model of religious moderation and coexistence. Despite being surrounded by predominantly Muslim areas, Suwaru stands as a beacon of tolerance, where people of different faiths live side by side in peace and mutual respect.

The harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians in Suwaru Village serves as an inspiring example for communities everywhere. It demonstrates that with understanding, empathy, and a commitment to mutual respect, people of diverse backgrounds can come together to build a society where everyone is valued and respected.

As the GPdI Ebenhaezer Suwaru becomes a focal point for the Christian community, it also serves as a symbol of hope and unity for all residents of Suwaru Village. In a world often divided by religious and cultural differences, Suwaru stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together in the spirit of harmony and cooperation. (*)
