PACITAN – One of the sacred traditions that continues to be preserved and honored in Java is Ruwatan Wayang Beber. This deeply meaningful cultural ceremony was solemnly held on Saturday night, August 31, 2024, in the village square of Gedompol. The event attracted local residents who gathered to witness the beauty and richness of Javanese culture that has been carefully maintained in this village.

Ruwatan is a traditional ritual intended to cleanse or purify a person from any bad luck or misfortune believed to befall them. This jar is then ceremonially broken over daluwangi wood, a symbolic act that represents the origins of Wayang Beber. The daluwangi wood, believed to be the primary material used in creating the wayang has a strong connection to the history of the Majapahit Kingdom, enhancing the sacredness of the entire ceremony.
