Hajj 2026 Indonesian Pilgrims Advised to Limit Outdoor Worship
Hajj 2026 pilgrims face extreme 42°C temperatures in Makkah as Indonesian authorities urge worshippers to conserve energy, avoid nonessential activities, and prioritize health ahead of peak pilgrimage rituals.
MAKKAH – As temperatures in Makkah rise to a scorching 42 degrees Celsius, Hajj 2026 has become not only a profound spiritual journey but also a major test of physical endurance for millions of pilgrims, including thousands from Indonesia. Extreme heat is now one of the most pressing challenges facing worshippers during this year’s pilgrimage season.
Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs is urging pilgrims participating in Hajj 2026 to significantly reduce unnecessary outdoor activities in order to preserve their energy ahead. As we all know they will need to use it during the peak pilgrimage rituals in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna).
Officials believe conserving physical strength is essential for successfully completing the most important stages of Hajj.
With Saudi Arabia’s desert climate intensifying, Indonesian authorities are prioritizing health protection as an essential part of Hajj 2026 preparations. This was especially for elderly pilgrims and those with pre-existing medical conditions.
The ministry has warned that excessive movement during peak heat hours could seriously impact pilgrims’ well-being.
“We ask pilgrims to start conserving energy. Do not force yourselves to carry out unnecessary activities, especially outside the hotel during the daytime. Prioritize obligatory worship only,” said ministry spokesperson Maria Assegaf (11/5/2026).
The warning reflects growing concerns that extreme temperatures during Hajj 2026 could increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heatstroke among worshippers. Health preservation is now being viewed as a crucial part of responsible pilgrimage.
Rather than encouraging excessive physical devotion before the core Hajj rites, officials are promoting strategic worship focused on mandatory rituals while reducing optional activities.
Repeated Umrah visits, shopping trips, and prolonged outdoor prayer sessions are discouraged during extreme daytime temperatures.
“The peak of Hajj requires comprehensive preparedness—not only physical capability but also mental calmness, spiritual readiness, and discipline in following all official guidance,” Maria added.
For Hajj 2026, Indonesian pilgrims are being reminded that preserving health is directly tied to their ability to complete one of Islam’s holiest obligations successfully. Physical readiness can determine whether pilgrims can fully participate in the demanding Armuzna phase.
Pilgrims are strongly encouraged to drink water regularly throughout the day. Proper hydration is essential to prevent dangerous heat-related illnesses.
They are also advised to avoid direct sunlight whenever possible. Staying indoors during peak afternoon temperatures can significantly reduce health risks.
Using umbrellas, hats, and cooling gear is highly recommended. Protective equipment can help shield pilgrims from intense desert heat.
Medical guidance should be followed immediately if symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, or shortness of breath appear. Quick response can prevent serious complications.
Pilgrims are also reminded to prioritize adequate rest between worship activities. Conserving energy now is vital for completing the physically demanding rituals ahead.
This evolving approach highlights how Hajj 2026 is increasingly shaped by climate realities, requiring modern pilgrimage strategies that balance faith with personal safety. Religious devotion must now be paired with environmental awareness.
As global temperatures continue to challenge large-scale religious gatherings, Hajj 2026 serves as a reminder that devotion must also include wisdom, discipline, and physical preparedness. For Indonesian pilgrims, safeguarding energy today may be one of the most important ways to fulfill their sacred journey tomorrow.(*)
