Understanding the Street Child World Cup
The Street Child World Cup is an international football competition for vulnerable, disadvantaged, and street-connected youth aged approximately 14 to 17 years old from around the world.
Founded in 2010, the tournament provides these young participants with an opportunity to showcase their football talent while also advocating for children’s rights, education, protection, and social inclusion. Beyond the matches, players engage in global discussions and campaigns focused on overcoming poverty, inequality, and limited access to opportunities.
SCWC has become a life-changing platform, using sports as a tool to empower marginalized youth and inspire long-term social change.
A Symbol of Hope and Opportunity
Garuda Baru’s victory represents more than a sporting achievement—it symbolizes resilience, hope, and the extraordinary potential of young people from challenging backgrounds.
By lifting the trophy in Mexico, Indonesia has demonstrated that vulnerable youth can achieve greatness on the global stage when given the right support and opportunities. Their triumph is expected to inspire stronger youth development initiatives and broader support for inclusive sports programs across Indonesia.
Garuda Baru’s success of becoming the first winner at Street Child World Cup (SCWC) 2026 in Mexico sends a powerful message that every child deserves the chance to dream, compete, and succeed regardless of social circumstances. (*)
