MALANGA student from UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Malang) won two gold medals from Brazilian Jujitsu Open 2020 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

She is Ilma Yeni Megawati, a student who majors in Architectural Techniques, in the Faculty of Science and Technology of UIN Malang. She participated in the International Jujitsu Competition on Sunday (23/2/2020).

She came along with nine other participants from Indonesia. Yeni joined in two competition classes of female Jujitsu. The first class weight range is 58.6 – 65 kg, while the second class is 64 – 69 kg.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), I could win two gold medals from the category of female adult (18 to 30 years old),” she told TIMES Indonesia.

This success required perseverance and strong determination. Previously, she had managed to outmatch fighters from Malaysia, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Irak, and Indonesia, Yeni said.

She had prepared herself for this world-class competition. Since January, she had done much exercise and special treatments. She even did not eat rice for three days in a row to lose some weight.

Jiu-Jitsu is not a new thing for Yeni. She has been interested in this kind of sport that is not a popular sport in Indonesia.

“This competition is a good chance for me to test myself. I think I still have not done well. Previously, I competed in ASIAN Games and SEA Games, but I failed. Therefore, I think this competition is a very good chance for me to boost my adrenaline and improve myself in competing with fighters around the world,” she said.

She used to be in a quarantine for a long time in Jakarta to prepare herself for SEA Games and ASIAN Games. Every week, she had to exercise for 2-3 times a day.

Yeni is grateful and proud of being able to keep the good name of UIN Malang and Indonesia. She hoped that the Jiu-Jitsu fighters in Indonesia, especially in UIN Malang would be able to improve themselves.

The Rector of UIN Malang, Prof. Dr. H. Abdul Haris really appreciated Yeni’s effort.

“Bravo! Congratulations, Yeni. We are proud of your achievement. There will be a special appreciation and award from the campus according to the terms and conditions,” he said.

Yeni promises to keep up her good work and improve herself physically and mentally for other competitions. (*)
