JAKARTAWhat do you think if your senior relative or family went abroad or somewhere far away alone without anyone to accompany them? It will a worrisome somehow, right? Surprisingly, this is what happened to Embun, a 75 year old granny who went to Mecca for hajj alone without any family or relative to accompany her.

Embun is a 75-year-old middle-aged woman with a strong determination to perform the Hajj. Despite not having a companion, she courageously took a step forward to embark on the Hajj journey this year.

This granny is one of the 390 Hajj pilgrims in the first group who arrived in Madinah. She feels immensely grateful to be able to go to Mecca this year. Upon arriving at Sector L Hotel in Plaza Badr Al Maqam, Embun expressed her gratitude. "I departed alone without a companion," she said on Wednesday (24/5/2023).

While holding her bag tightly she explained why was she so brave to embark on the Hajj pilgrimage without a companion. "The important thing is the intention, Bismillah. Hopefully, I will return safely as well," Embun said.

Her child and daughter-in-law deliver her through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. During the journey, this woman who resides in Pondok Labu, South Jakarta, felt the support of the people around her.

She also said that even without any family beside her, people around her treat her as their family. "Alhamdulillah, everyone cared, from the airplane to here," she said.

In her senior age, Embun doesn't need a wheelchair to assist her walking around and doing her hajj routine. She uses to walk around her neighborhood in the morning and use this chance to try her strength. "I can walk up to 2,000 meters every morning," she said with enthusiasm.

Embun recounted that she had to wait for 11 years before finally being able to embark on the Hajj. Her family put her on the list while she was 64 year old. "My child registered me to go on Hajj," she revealed.

During the hajj routine, this 75 year old granny will stay at Plaza Badr Al Maqam Hotel. Room 506 will be the witness of this strong will of Embun to perform hajj this year. (*)
